  Jerry came over to our home to do a estimate on a bathroom remodel. He was quiet and allowed me to try and explain what I wanted to do which I appreciated. Once I started talking about the shower he seemed somewhat dubious and mentioned several times that the shower I was asking for was roughly double in price to a regular frame shower. I nodded to him that I was aware of this and that I had a few other estimates on the shower. Looking back at it I wonder if he assumed I was not in a financial position to afford the work due to my age (28) and that I mentioned we were on a budget (not the same thing as being unable to afford the work at a reasonable price). I work as a software engineer and make a respectable salary so I can afford the work, but that is not the same thing as not trying to find the best value for my hard earned dollars. As we spoke further he asked how many quotes I had and I told him. He asked how many more I planning to get and I said one more (not that it's any of his business). He abruptly closed his binder, told me he wasn't interested in the job and said he didn't want to get into a bidding war as he started walking to the door without even so much as a "thank you for your time". I can respect not wanting to get in a bidding war but he could still use some basic manners once he has decided he is not interested. He seemed almost insulted that I would shop around! His rude behavior as he left and his curt demeanor while he was here displayed a lack of professionalism that I would not expect from someone with so much supposed experience. I would not recommend working with Jerry as there are plenty of other people who do good work without being rude or condescending to you.
